With apologies, I meant Janet, not Jane as for the character name and novel info I'm searching for.

I've an acquaintance whose family member named Janet was the source of this character name, but we don't know which book(s) it might have been used in.

Well, leaving aside Miss Jane Marple! off the top of my head I can think of the following Janes:

Jane Helier in The Thirteen Problems

Jane Wilkinson in Lord Edgeware Dies

Jane Finn in The Secret Adversary

Jane Grey in Death in the Clouds

Jane Plenderleith in Murder in the Mews

Jane Olivera in One, Two, Buckle my Shoe
